Stress is a natural part of life.


It is our response to change, or to demands made upon us.
In moderation, or when we have time to adapt, it is not a problem.
However, stress overload seems pervasive and unavoidable in our modern lives.
Busy schedules, time pressure, crowded noisy environments, and social tensions (both personal and global), cause repeated activation of our fight-or-flight response
.

Without regular unwinding and calming, this chronic hyperarousal may manifest as:

  • muscle tension (headache, backache, etc.)
  • digestive/sleep disturbance
  • high blood pressure
  • irritability and emotional constriction
  • increased susceptibility to "dis-ease" resulting from blocked energy flow and suppressed immune function
But: you have a choice about how you respond to stress!
You can learn to change your body's response to stressful stimuli.

Centering, in which the body is deeply quiet while the mind is alert and clear, is a fourth state of consciousness, distinct from waking, dreaming, and dreamless sleep. Once you have experienced and fully recognized this state, you can re-aquire it at will for the purpose of de-stressing and self-regulation. As you incorporate true relaxation into your daily living, the symptoms of chronic stress can diminish. Natural, optimum well-being and radiant health can emerge.
